EGSC GYM MEMBER UPDATE |
Dear Gym Member
As you are all probably aware Craig Tonna, Head of Operations
left East Grinstead Sports Club on Friday 14th August 2010. We
were very sorry to see Craig leave as he has been a key member
of the staff here for many years, however we wish him well in
his new employment. It has also been publicised on our Web Site
that Freedom Leisure will be taking over the management of East
Grinstead Sports Club on 1st October 2010. This is a very
exciting time for the Sports Club as Freedom Leisure has success
in running many different sporting facilities and can provide
expert support and guidance as East Grinstead Sports Club
continues to grow.
A key focus for the future development of East Grinstead Sports
Club is the Fitness Suite. Whilst we appreciate things have not
been ideal for sometime now it is our intention to continue to
provide the best service possible whilst future developments are
being discussed and implemented. I am sure once Freedom Leisure
take over they will of course advise not only staff but members
as well of their future plans for the fitness suite.
We note that there are a couple of machines out of action in the
gym and are working with an external company to come in and
carry out some maintenance on these machines. In addition we
note there are several lights out of action and again in line
with health and safety requirements we are awaiting the approved
engineer to come in and replace the bulbs at high level and
waiting for delivery of the bulbs at the lower level. All of
this will be carried out as soon as possible.
With the current staffing levels we are unable at present to
have the gym manned all day and all evening. It is however part
of the duty officers daily routine to do hourly checks on the
gym. If at anytime you require any assistance in the fitness
suite please do not hesitate to contact reception who will be
happy to help. During unmanned reception times please contact
the bar who will be able to contact the duty officer for you.
We apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused to
our customers during this period! If you require any further
information or wish to discuss anything relating to your
membership please do not hesitate to contact me.

Mourns The Passing Of Dennis Leman |
|
It
is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Dennis Leman
who died last night. Dennis joined East Grinstead Hockey Club
over 60 years ago and was a central figure in its history
helping to make the club what it is today.
Dennis joined the club in the late 1940s and was 1st XI captain
from 1952 to 1962. He was a very active club member both on and
off the pitch and was instrumental, with others, in the purchase
of the land in East Grinstead on which the modern day club has
been founded. He and other club members constructed the famous
'upturned boat' clubhouse and laid two grass pitches which
formed the cornerstone from which the club grew in strength and
stature from the 1960s to the present day. He was Club President
from 1972 to 1977 and remained a committed and passionate
supporter of the club long after his playing days were over.
He and his wife Joy were blessed with four sons, all of whom
played for EGHC at some time. Their youngest sons, Richard and
James, still play for the Vets and the junior development teams
and, with their children, have continued to foster the Club's
family ethos which is a source of great strength to members and
is evident to all those who visit or join the club.
Dennis will be sorely missed and our sympathy and condolences go
to Joy and her family at this sad time.
A private cremation will be held at 10.30am on Monday 23rd
August at Surrey and Sussex Crematorium followed by a Memorial
Service at St John’s Church, Dormansland, Surrey RH7 6QU at
11.30am. All family and friends welcome to attend, family
flowers only but donations, if desired, to East Grinstead Hockey
Club c/o Alex Jones Funeral Directors, 1 East Grinstead Road,
Lingfield, Surrey RH7 6EP. This will be followed by a lunch at
East Grinstead Sports Club, Saint Hill Road, East Grinstead,
West Sussex, RH19 4JU (www.eastgrinsteadsportsclub.co.uk) where
all are very welcome.

PROPOSED NEW MANAGEMENT
ARRANGEMENT |
"EGSC Limited, the Charity that owns and provides the facilities
at EGSC has been exploring better ways of managing the
facilities. It has appointed Freedom Leisure Limited as its
preferred partner and subject to agreeing and signing contract
details, Freedom Leisure Limited will take on a contract to
manage the site. We are targeting a contract start date of the 1
October 2010 and at that point all existing staff of the current
trading company will transfer to Freedom Leisure Limited.
Under this new arrangement EGSC Limited will continue to own and
provide the facilities to its members and the public and will
focus on fund raising so that it can fund major maintenance,
replacement of worn out facilities and provide new facilities;
Freedom Leisure Limited will be responsible for the management
of the whole site and day to day maintenance." |

3G ASTRO TURF READY FOR ACTION |
|
A state of the art new 3G astro turf is now ready for action at
East Grinstead Sports Club and is ahead of
schedule. The all new surface replaces the original sand based
astro turf along with a new shock pad and 5metre high fencing
surrounding the facility.
Block bookings for the new surface have been flooding in
after it was announced that the astro turf was to be replaced
giving a long lease of life to the local football, hockey,
lacrosse and rugby communities.
"I am delighted with the quality of the new facility and the
speed at which it has been installed. We have had a lot of
interest from a variety of local clubs and teams, all jostling
to pre book pitch time on the new surface" said Dave Brown, the
driving force behind the project.
